Ryan is a Technician Apprentice at ONYX Automotive focusing on the Jaguar, Land Rover, and Range Rover brands. He started his apprenticeship in October 2022. Ryan is mentored by Trey L. at ONYX.
Some advice I would give to students about becoming an ONYX apprentice is that it’s a good start in the career field, plus you get hands-on and classroom-style learning. Another advantage is being paired with a mentor which helps with the overall learning experience. Additionally, by being an apprentice you get to learn about one brand of vehicle and their processes of working on them instead of starting in an independent shop working on multiple brands, which could be scary for someone just starting in this field.
My apprenticeship helped me get used to working on the brand, starting with oil changes and basic maintenance. As I advanced, I started to get into the more complicated diagnostics.
Cody and my HHU teachers have helped me improve my understanding of vehicle mechanics and electronics. I have learned patience, how to handle stress in tough situations, and learned great teamwork skills.
I have two pet frogs.
