Q&A with Drew Doty

1) How do you think your apprenticeship will benefit you in your career exploration/advancement?

My apprenticeship through ONYX has exponentially grown my knowledge of the automotive field. This role has opened many doors for my future and will allow for many opportunities for my career in the automotive industry. This is very exciting!

2) Is there a person or a moment at work that has had a positive impact on you?

It’s hard to narrow it down to a specific moment/person. Every day I’m happy to come to work and the staff and service technicians keep it that way by always making sure I’m a part of the family at ONYX.

3) Tell us one fun fact about you.

I like to play the ukulele.

Q&A with Joe Peterson

1) In what ways has being a mentor positively impacted you the most?

It has been a humble experience being a part of someone’s personal growth and contributing to the growth of our team of technicians at ONYX.

2) How have you seen your leadership progress since becoming a mentor?

I have learned how to be more patient and understanding, knowing that people are still learning, and some mistakes will be made. My job is to try to teach in those moments so accidents can be avoided. I have learned to be more attentive to my mentee as well as myself.

3) How do you see one of ONYX’s core values, “Striving to be better today than yesterday”, lived out through your daily interactions as a mentor?

As mentioned above if mistakes are made, I own up to them, move on, and try to come up with ways to prevent/avoid them from happening again.

I also try to stay ahead of my training so I know what to do when my job requires it, so I can pass on what I have learned. At the end of every day, I reflect and try to see if there is anything I could have done better.
