Title & Registration FAQ

There are several factors that can cause your Title or MSO to not be available at time of purchase. We will provide you with a copy of instructions outlining the steps we will follow to ensure we are able to have your title available at the earliest possible time. Our goal is to clearly communicate to you about your title status and to make the process as convenient as possible for you.

All title work takes on average 20 days to process after date of purchase. We will contact you regarding any next steps that may be needed to process your title work.

• NE Residents purchasing in NE: 30-day in-transits (1 front & 1 rear)
• NE Residents purchasing in IA: 30-day in-transit (1 rear window)
• IA Residents purchasing in NE: 30-day in-transit (1 front & 1 rear)
• IA Residents purchasing in IA: 45-day registration “applied-for” if fees & taxes are collected. If there is a current trade involved, the plates will transfer to the next vehicle. If no fees or taxes are collected by the dealer, then there is nothing issued and plates cannot be transferred.
• All other states: In-transit issued with expiration date pursuant to that state’s law.

If you financed or leased your vehicle through one of H+H’s preferred lenders, the title will be sent directly to the lienholder after it has been processed through the DMV. The lienholder will hold the title for the duration of your loan or lease. Once the loan is paid in full, the title will be released to you.

If you paid cash, by check, or used your own outside lender, the title will be processed through the DMV and sent directly to you or your lender once completed. Cash and check buyers will receive the title at their address of record. If you financed through your own bank or credit union, the title will be forwarded to that institution.

If your sales tax and/or registration fees were rolled into your financing, our title department will handle submitting those funds to the DMV on your behalf. The registration and plates will be processed as normal once the DMV receives the appropriate payments. You do not need to make a separate payment at the DMV.

If you are registering your vehicle yourself, you will typically need:

• Your signed title or proof of ownership
• A valid government-issued photo ID
• Proof of insurance
• Payment for registration and any applicable fees
• Your Social Security number (for first-time registrations in Nebraska)
